Prague: How to Use Public Transport

1. How to get around Prague with public transportation?

The sights in Prague are mostly close-by, so it easy to get around on foot (so remember to bring comfy shoes. However, when you don’t feel like walking, you can use Prague’s efficient public transportation or a combination of both.

The city offers the following modes of public transportation:

• Metro
• Tram
• Bus

What are the prices of public transportation in Prague?

If you use public transportation such as metro, tram, or a bus, you will pay 24 CZK for 30 minutes, 32 CZK for 90 min, 110 CZK for one day ticket, and 310 CZK for a three-day ticket (at the time of writing of this article, 100 CZK is approximately $4.4, 4 EUR, or 3.3 GBP - always check current exchange rates).

Don’t forget to validate your ticket when you enter the metro, tram, or bus, or you might get fined.

Don’t forget to use Google and Google Maps

Use Google Maps or a similar app that features public transportation in Prague. Check Google for the metro’s peak and off-peak hours. 

Of course, you can use Taxi or Uber and there are many other means of transportation in Prague, such as Hop On Hop Off buses, boat rides, bikes, electric scooters, etc. You have to pay extra for those, of course.

2. How to get from and to the airport

If you’re arriving to Prague by plane, you will arrive to Václav Havel Airport Prague. To get to and from the airport, use any of the following options:

• Buses: We recommend the 119 Bus Line which can reach Prague city center in 15 minutes. Other busses include:

•  Bus lines: 119, 100, 191, and 910 (night bus)
• Airport Express connecting airport and Prague main train station: LINK

3. What if you’re arriving by train?

You can travel to Prague by train from numerous European cities. If you’re arriving from outside the Czech Republic, you’ll arrive at the Main railway station in Prague city center. If you’re planning to purchase a train ticket, you can check out the Czech railways’ website: LINK

4. What to know if you’re using a car in Prague

You can use Google Maps to get driving directions to Prague. The system works really well.

Parking in the city center is limited, especially during the day, so it might be challenging to find a spot. Also, parking in the yellow and blue areas is for locals only — parking costs between 40 to 60 CZK (8 AM to 8 PM). In many open space parking places, you can only park for up to two hours. You can also park in one of the parking garages for about 30 CZK on average and from 200 CZK to 700 CZK per day.
